Diamonds are simply beautiful. From the cut of the diamond to the final setting, diamond jewellery designers know the value of each piece and thus they focus on creating diamond jewellery that will bring out the sparkle of the diamond. But it’s the setting that actually creates the miracle of the diamond. Once such unique setting that has gained prominence in the recent times is the illusion setting.
Illusion setting’ was invented by a french jeweller in the 1860s with clear intentions of making smaller diamonds look at least three times as large. Illusion setting is also commonly referred as Tikli setting in the Indian market or ‘mirage setting’ worldwide. This setting enhances the appearance, and especially the perceived size of the diamonds in the jewellery. The metal plates that are used in this setting are commonly known as illusion plates, miracles plates or even tikli in the indian market.
The reason why Illusion Setting stands out in todays times, is because of the entire philosophy of “less cash, more flash”. Look at the way each of these bracelets shine and sparkle, and all of them had less than one fourth carat of tiny diamonds in totality. That’s the magic of Illusion setting.
Lots of creativity and imagination go into creating illusion set jewellery pieces. Therefore, illusion designs are often unique. They are also much more affordable than big diamond pieces. Let’s understand why is this setting so affordable. First of all, an illusion setting uses more metal than diamonds, so this makes it more affordable. Secondly, large single diamonds of a good quality are very hard to find. Therefore, they have a much higher per carat than small diamonds of an equal quality. Jewellery made of one small diamond, or even lots of small diamonds, will therefore cost much less per carat than an item crafted with one large stone.
Illusion setting diamond jewellery is popular than ever today. These jewellery pieces will maximise the glow of your diamonds while producing an elegant look and feel. Younger couples and seasoned jewellery aficianados alike have grown to love the illusion set diamond. We, at S.D. jewellerys are the largest manufacturer of illusion plates in the industry.
We got to know about the magic that illusion setting creates for the consumers. Let’s go deeper into the manufacturing process and understand how illusion setting is actually done and the role of miracle plates in the process
The manufacturing of miracle plates is carried out using precise machinery and the use of a diamond tool to carve out the facets. It is because of these facets, the miracle plates are able to reflect the sparkle of the diamonds set in them. Therefore, when viewed from a distance, the light that is collected and reflected by the diamond is also reflected off the shiny white facets of the miracle plates, giving an illusion of a larger stone and hence the name ‘Illusion Setting’.
The plates are set in the jewellery either by the way of soldering or prong setting. The diamonds are set in the miracle plates by the way of nick setting. The miracle plates can be of various shapes, sizes and cuts.
